| Reaching the World from Northern Alberta |

In early 2007, Tolko Industries Ltd. announced its decision to construct a new $35 million I-Joist facility in the W4/Sturgeon Industrial Park on the east side of the county. Sturgeon County’s ideal location was a contributing factor in Tolko’s decision, as its feedstock will be brought in from northern Alberta and its products distributed to markets all over Western Canada and the United States. Strategic transportation connections of road and rail are vital.
“We have been marketing ourselves as the ‘Gateway to the North’ and this shows that Sturgeon is THE staging area for northern Alberta industries,” explains Mayor Helmut Hinteregger, who says he is pleased with the company’s decision to locate here, as it adds to the diversity of major industry in the county.
Tolko’s plant will also cut and package oriented strand lumber and be capable of shipping mixed loads of engineered wood products. The company anticipates completion of the plant in late 2008.
