GM to Invest $90 Million at Ontario Plant, Recall 150 Workers

Location Canada News Desk (11/09/2009)
General Motors Company (GM) will invest nearly CAN$90 million at its CAMI Automotive plant in Oshawa, Ontario, for a project that includes the retooling of the facility's body shop. The company says in a statement that it will recall approximately 150 laid-off workers due to increased demand for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. "This investment is an excellent example of what happens when you get the production right," says Arturo Elias, president of GM Canada. "If the product is right, everything else follows -- increased production, increased employment, and strong market demand." GM will increase production at the CAMI plant by 40,000 units annually; the work is to begin immediately and completion is expected in approximately seven months.
